About Us

So what the hell is Vegas Outsider you may ask? That’s a fair question and I shall do my best to answer here. For some time now, I have been a resident of the notorious Sin City and while I cannot complain about the weather or the endless supply of gas station slot machines I can play at a whim, I have always been bothered by this city’s lack of acceptance. And when I say acceptance, I mean of itself; of its own surreal existence as a perpetual engine of weirdness and contradiction. Nothing here fits right and yet that is exactly why it works so well. Despite attempts to be like other metropolises, i.e. Los Angeles or New York, with gauche displays of class and style, Las Vegas will always be a sore thumb out in the middle of the desert. If I had one wish (alright a few more would be nice), it would be that this city finally embrace its status of being the fringe and using it to its advantage. Nobody will ever respect it as an equal player, so it should simply create a new game by its own rules.

Therein lays the basic philosophy of Vegas Outsider, where Las Vegas is not a place but rather a philosophy – anything of value has its place and shall not be separated by false divisions.  A platform where seemingly clashing worlds of film, music, culture, art, porn, or whatever barrel into one another and finally have a place to exist side by side next to each other, recognizing what brings them together rather than keeps them apart. As long as it is interesting and brings some degree of knowledge or pleasure to people without causing harm, then it is up for discussion. Moreover, it is my hope that Vegas Outsider is a place for people who refuse to allow themselves to be bound by these divisions to come and connect with one another, share information, stories, let people know about what’s going on whether it be a new band, a favorite movie, thoughts on what inspires your life; again all is allowed with the exception of harming one another out of viciousness or pettiness. Ultimately, this should become a place that’s bigger than everyone involved and exist as a point where those who are unsure of things around them and what they like know they have a place in this increasingly fractured world.  Now if this all sounds a bit too hippie-like for your taste, I certainly empathize and hope you don’t think the incense and paisley will come out next. However, let me leave you with a quote from one Hunter S. Thompson which I think sums up what this place is about and slowly grow into:

“There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.”
